The crisis that erupted after Pakistan's Supreme Court ruled that Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani is disqualified from holding office has been overcome.

Former minister for water and power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has been elected as the 26th prime minister of Pakistan.

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf received 211 votes of the 340-seat Pakistani Parliament.

Ashraf who thanked the coalition for supporting him said the first issues he will tackle will be energy crisis.
