Hence US-Pakistan relations which were strained because of the killing of 24 Pakistani soldiers in a NATO air raid have started to thaw.
Pakistan is the shortest and cheapest route for NATO forces to enter and exit Afghanistan.
The withdrawal of about 100 thousand American soldiers from Afghanistan in 2014 further increases the importance this route.
24 Pakistani soldiers were killed in a NATO air raid in November last year after which Pakistan had closed transportation through Karachi port.
NATO forces had to use more expensive routes following this incident.
Finally US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called her Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani khar and expressed her regrets on the incident which resulted in deaths of 24 Pakistani soldiers.
Pakistani government accepted the apology and declared to reopen supply routes.
